Lorene Elizabeth Parker Swim, 92, left for her heavenly home December 11, 2017. She spent her last years in Bryant, Arkansas and many before in Smackover, Gurdon, DeWitt, Hot Springs and Benton. She was born and raised a southern belle. Her manners were impeccable and her appearance was always a priority. She grew up during the Depression, struggled through WWII while the love of her life was fighting a world away. He was longing to be home with his sweetheart with the wavy blonde hair and curvy figure. She was a pin-up for sure. They made a life together after the war and stayed together for 64 years. They were two who adored each other, supported each other and unquestionably loved each other. Their's was the kind of love that inspires movies and poems and novels. She was a June Cleaver ‘50's style homemaker raising two little girls with long blonde pony tails, frilly dresses, and, of course, good manners. Dirt, germs and untidiness were her foes. Shopping, Sunday School teaching, Girl Scout leading, and attending the girls' events were a joyful part of her life. She was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and knew more than most about the Bible through study. Always a neighbor's helper, she taught by example the importance of caring and giving to others. She was transformed when the grandchildren were born. She was easily, but knowingly, manipulated, always giving in to their every need or wish, real or perceived. Great-grandchildren were just the icing on the cake. She and her beloved partner, Swim, were fulfilling those dreams that started so long ago. They retired and built their paradise on the lake. A place that cuddled many grandkids, hosted many celebrations and was a haven to all that came. It was always a welcoming and fun gathering place. She almost died when she was 80 years old, but pulled through because of her toughness, resolve, and the strong, loving bond with her Swim. She wasn't ready to "leave us". She had work to do……and a few years later her job was to gently ease the passing of her devoted husband. Those who went before are her husband L.E. Swim, and her parents N.E. and Nona Parker of Smackover and sister-in-law Betty Parker of Smackover. She is survived by her brother Doyle Parker of Smackover, daughter Susan and son (in-law) Richard Calley of Benton, daughter, Kay and son (in law) Mike Gaines of North Little Rock, granddaughter Dee Dee Vittitow (Jay) of Benton, grandson Bree (Dara) Calley of Hot Springs, and grandson Michael Gaines of Beverly Hills, California. And also by her great grandkids, Tony and JoAnna Vittitow of Benton, Reese and Gray Parker Calley of Hot Springs. Also gone before, rescue dog, Lady. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Thursday at Young's Chapel with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Smackover Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors. An online guest registry will be available at www.youngsfuneralhome.com.
