It is with great sadness that the family of Jo Annette "Jodie" Halk Dugan announces her passing. A long-time resident of Wynne, short-time resident of Mountain Home, Jodie died peacefully, Wednesday, the 13th of December, at the age of 87, at Hospice of the Ozarks after a brief illness. Jodie will lovingly be remembered by her children, Ann Menendez Spearman (Robert), and Bill Dugan (LuAnne Dillard); grandchildren, whom she adored, Walker Dugan, Katie Dugan, and Hope Menendez; and her loving friend who was like a bonus granddaughter to her, Crystal Stout. Jodie was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Wilmuth Christopher Halk; husband, Joseph Walker Dugan; and son-in-law, Hernan Rene Menendez. Born in 1930, she lived in Wynne most of her life, moving to Mountain Home after Joe's death. She attended Ouachita Baptist University during her freshman year, before transferring to the University of Arkansas, where she was a Kappa Kappa Gamma and earned her degree in Home Economics. She completed her dietetics internship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis before accepting employment at Baptist Hospital in Memphis. Jodie and Joe were married in 1955 and made Wynne their home. A very talented musician, music was always one of her passions. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ for church, her "job" for many years; she also enjoyed teaching young piano students. Getting to perform with her incredibly talented musical buddies from Wynne and nearby was another of her great pleasures. Another of her delights was traveling with her family and friends. When she was younger, fishing, playing tennis, and bridge occupied much of her time. Her greatest satisfaction came from being a mom, her life's goal, which she handled with much grace and made it look easy. Her most valued treasure, in her last three years, was getting to watch Hope play volleyball. She never missed a game: the team, other moms, and coaches called her "Their Mascot"! She was a wonderfully kind and sweet lady, who made friends wherever she went. She will be missed by many. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 11 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church of Wynne, 800 Falls Blvd., with The Reverend Glenn Pettus and The Reverend Thompson Murray officiating. Interment will precede the service at 10:30 a.m. at Cogbill Cemetery in Wynne. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Kernodle Funeral Home, 315 E. Union in Wynne. Those who so desire may make donations in memory of Jodie to the Organ Fund at the First United Methodist Church, 800 Falls Blvd, Wynne, Ark. 72396, or The Boys and Girls Club of Cross County, 325 Magnolia St, Wynne, Ark. 72396.
