Henry Sidney (Jack) Neel

Henry Sidney (Jack) Neel Jr., 90, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, in Fayetteville after a brief illness following a fall at home. He was born in Little Rock on Oct. 4, 1927, to Dr. Henry Sidney Neel and the former Orpha Ellen Hill. He grew up in Stuttgart and earned his bachelor's and law degrees at the University of Arkansas Fayetteville, where he was president of Sigma Chi fraternity. Near the end of WWII he served in the U.S. Army at General MacArthur's headquarters in Tokyo. In 1953, he married the former Eleanor Claire Stubblefield in El Dorado, who survives him. He is also survived by a son, Eliot Davidson Neel of Fayetteville, and two daughters, Hope Claire Smith of Jonesboro and Druellen Lucy Glauber of Seattle, their spouses, and three grandchildren: Ruthie, Nate, and John Glauber. After a career as Special Agent in the FBI in Chicago, he retired to Fayetteville where he worked for Knox Investigations. In Chicago, he was a deacon at Fourth Presbyterian Church and then a member and Sunday School teacher at Winnetka Congregational Church. He was a Girl Scout troop leader and supporter of environmental and wilderness conservation. He was an active member of Amnesty International, where he was a speaker and participant in national marches to abolish the death penalty. He was a communicant at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Fayetteville, where services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 224 North East Ave., Fayetteville, Ark., 72701. Arrangements are by Moore's Chapel.
