Ralph Cloyd

Ralph Cloyd, 96, of Siloam Springs died December 18, 2017 at his home. He was born May 5, 1921 at Mud Camp, Kentucky to Charles Taylor Cloyd and Ina Floe Gray. He was the second son in a family of seven children, three of whom preceded him in death. He worked on area farms in his early teens and went to work for the Civilian Conservation Corps in Moscow, Idaho. He joined the Navy in December of 1941 and was Honorably Discharged in January of 1946. He served at the Naval Training Center in Chicago, Illinois and in the South Pacific during the retaking of the islands from Japan. At the same time, a brother in the Army and one in the Marines were serving in the same area. He married Helen Carter Stephens in 1946 and moved to Siloam Springs, Arkansas, where he lived the rest of his life. He was a life member of the Siloam Springs Post of the VFW and a past post Commander He also belonged to the American Legion and was a long time member of the First Christian Church. He always worked with automobiles as a mechanic and was the local Ford Motor Company dealer during the 1960's. He was an avid bowler and recorded a 300 game during league play. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He is survived by two daughters, Linda C. Miller and Judy A. Arbia, both of Siloam Springs and two sons, Randall C. Stephens (Hilary) of Columbia, Maryland and Jerry C. Stephens (Linda) of Riverview, Florida. He is also survived by six grandsons, including Jack Daugherty of Siloam Springs, five granddaughters, five great-grandsons, eight great-granddaughters, and one great-great-grandson. He is also survived by one sister, Geneva Goode of Glasgow, Kentucky and two brothers, Paul Cloyd (Betty) and Earl Cloyd (Sandy) both of Indianapolis, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 69 years, his parents, two brothers, Barney Ray Cloyd, and Roy Cloyd, one sister, Mary Grace Coe and one grandson, Christopher Daugherty. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday, December 22, 2017 at First Christian Church in Siloam Springs. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Siloam Springs.
