Steena Witherington, 86, of Hamburg, died Sunday, February 12, 2017. Mrs. Witherington was a native of the Milo Community outside of Hamburg and a resident of Hamburg for the past 60 years. She worked at Hamburg Shirt Factory and Boyd Nichols Store in Fountain Hill for many years. At an early age, she was very proficient at playing the piano and singing. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church where she served as the church pianist and always played the piano at every church she was a member of. She was a member and played the piano for the Ding-a-lings, a group of older ladies that sang. She played the piano at the nursing home until Christmas of the past year. Playing the piano and singing were a very important part of her life. She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, A.D. Witherington in July of last year and her parents, Charles & Ethyl Knight Warner. She is survived by three sons, Phillip Witherington and wife, Maha, of Bryant, Warner Witherington of Lake Charles, Louisiana and David Witherington of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a brother, Joe Don Warner of Monroe, Louisiana and four grandchildren, Kanzy, David, Sherwet, and Joseph. Graveside services and interment are 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2017 in the Egypt Cemetery with Dr. Bobby Pennington officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
