Sherrill Lou Hooper Millard, 87, of Hot Springs, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017. From her children: Our mother has left an indelible mark on each of her children, Roy, Mary and Michael. She filled our lives with love, compassion and an unshakeable faith in what is right. She learned from her mother, her father and her step-father the lessons that formed her as a child of the Depression to be a smart and strong-willed young woman who left her home following high school and earned a degree as a Registered Nurse from Tulane University at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. Returning to Arkansas, she practiced her profession in Russellville, Arkansas at the Millard-Henry Clinic where she fell in love and married the man who would become our father and the man she would spend the next 66 years of her life, Leighton. Together, they provided for us, they taught us, they loved us and they fostered in us a desire to know God and to do that which He has called each of us to do. As children, we never lacked what we needed, and we frequently had much more than what we deserved because of her kind heart and discerning spirit. Sherrill is preceded in death by her mother, Viva Roseberry Hooper Hinkle, her father, Herbert Wesson Hooper, her step-father, Wayne Watson Hinkle and her cousins, Harry Hooper and Bob Hooper. Sherrill is survived by her husband of 66 years, I. Leighton Millard, MD; her step-sister, Barbara Hinkle Whiteside Immel; her children, Roy Leighton Millard and his wife Judy Geisler Millard, Mary Jennifer Millard and Michael Wayne Millard and his wife Samantha Deviney Millard; her grandchildren, David, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Samantha, Michael, Wil, Miles, Grace and Emma; her great-grandchildren, Josh, Eli, Sam, Benjamin, Kathryn, Jennifer, Sariah, Charlotte, Felix, Allison, Aurora, Olivia, Thor and Owen. We give thanks to God for the love and the grace that we have been shown through our mother who now goes to meet her Lord and her Creator. A Celebration of Sherrill's Life will take place at Gross Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 15th, at 2 p.m. The online guestbook, obituary and memorial tribute are available at www.GrossFuneralHome.com.
