George Alvin Owen

George Alvin Owen, 90 of Star City, died Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. He was born to David Sim and Bessie Bee Thompson Owen on April 29, 1926. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in World War II and was a farmer. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lee Owen, Leon Owen, Bud Owen and one sister, Betty Conner. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Earlene Bond Owen of Star City; three sons, Joe (Cheryl) Owen of Star City, Dennis (Glenda) Owen of Dumas and Steve (Kay) Owen of Star City; two brothers, Lloyd Owen of Star City and Nolan Owen of Petit Jean Mountain, Ark; four sisters, Louise Parker, Helen Owen, Pauline Myrick and Maxine Grumbles all of Star City; seven grandchildren, Amy Dean of Star City, Misty Morgan of Monticello, Denise Cox of Memphis, Tenn., Julie Dunlap, Kevin Owen, Jason Owen and Coy Lewis, all of Star City; and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Griffin Funeral Chapel with Bro. Ryan Morgan officiating. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial at Leek Cemetery.
