Newton Odell Hammond

Newton Odell Hammond, 97, of Beebe, died February 19, 2017. He was born in Roosevelt, Arkansas on June 8, 1919, to Clarence and Ica Hammond. He graduated from Searcy High School in 1937 and attended Harding College. He received his degree from Arkansas State in 1947. During WWII he served in the Army in the Aleutian Islands and Espiritu Santo. He met Edith Schultz in Seattle. They married on March 19, 1943. After the war they bought a farm near McRae. He was a farmer most of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife (passed away September 15, 2016), two brothers, and an infant grandson. He is survived and mourned by three daughters, Janice Mink, Margaret Anno, and Mary Oehrl; two sons, William Hammond and Steve Hammond; seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Beebe Church of Christ.
