Robert Roy Throckmorton Jr. of Hot Springs Village, died Wednesday February 22, 2017 at the age of 93. He was born June 7, 1923 in Muskogee, Okla. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nadine Hall Throckmorton; Virginia Mae Throckmorton, his wife of 55 years; sisters, Joan Shepard and Betty Kritikos and half-brother, William Herrick. He is survived by his daughter, Linda S. Throckmorton; sons, Robert P. Throckmorton (Patty) and Mark T. Throckmorton (Rita) ; grandchildren, Loren M. Shaft (Garrett), Sean T. Throckmorton (Sophie), Jason Throckmorton (Christine), Amanda Throckmorton (Lee), Alicia Luckhardt (Pacer); great grandchildren, Celina Throckmorton, Mykayla Throckmorton and Keaton Throckmorton, Cheyenne Luckhardt, Austin Luckhardt and Cierra Luckhardt, Tristin Bennett, Kieran Bennett, Grace Loomis, Levi Shaft and one great-great-grandchild. He attended high school in Muskogee, Okla. and went on to attend George Washington University in Washington D.C. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. Total active service five years and active Reserve for three years. He served 30 months in the South Pacific during WWII (Hawaii, Guadalcanal and New Caledonia and on the USS North Carolina.) He worked as a Cryptologist (Communications Intelligence) first with the U.S. Navy and then as a civilian with the National Security Agency. Posted to tours of duty in Japan, England and Colorado. A member of the Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association (NCVA) over 25 years and an early member of the Navy's Cryptologic efforts. He retired from Federal Service in 1978. He was a bowling enthusiast since the age of 5. He enjoyed golfing with the "Gish" golf group in Hot Springs Village for many years. He also held an amateur radio operators (HAM) license for more than 50 years. A genealogy buff, he spent many years researching and compiling family histories and authored a book entitled "My Life, Remembered – a Memoir, published in 2004. He belonged to a number of clubs and organizations: he was a 50 year Mason and Shriner, Member of HSV Shrine Club, National Sojourners and a past member of Whittington Lodge #365. Past President of HSV Breakfast Lions Club, past President of National Active and Retired federal Employees (NARFE), early member of Genealogy Club and charter member of VFW Post 10483 in Hot Springs Village. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017 at CedarVale Funeral Home located at 200 Minorca Rd, Hot Springs Village, Ark., Rev. Bill Bailey presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines church, Shriner's Children's Hospital, or Lions World Service for the Blind.
