Maurice (Mike) W. Hill, age 81, resident of Springdale formerly of Fayetteville, passed from this life on Jan. 24, 2017,at Circle of Life Earlene Howard Hospice Home in Springdale. For the last nine months, with his loving wife Janet by his side, he battled Congestive Heart Failure and COPD. He was born in Fort Smith, Ark. Aug. 21, 1935 to J.S. and Margaret Ocker Hill. Mike and his family moved to Long Beach, Calif. in 1942. He graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School before returning to Arkansas to attend college where he received a B.S.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Arkansas in 1959. Mike and Janet were married June 7, 1957 in the First Methodist Church in Van Buren, Ark. After getting his degree, Mike was employed for 27 years in the Treasurer's Office at the UofA. He was an exemplary father and husband spendinp 100% of his available time with his two sons and wife serving as Tee-Ball through Babe Ruth Baseball Coach. He was a Boy Scout Troop Leader and always active in his sons activities. Before retiring he owned the Handi Mart Convenience Stores in Springdale. For the last 18 years, Mike's passion has been RV'ing and travelling with his wife, Janet and cats, Calli and Ug-Leigh. They visited all States except one. He enjoyed caravaning for many weeks at a time with his friends. He enjoyed wintering in Texas. He and Janet made many friends during their adventures. He was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, Civitan Club, Dudes and Dolls Square Dance Club, 4 States Village Collectors Club, Dean's RV Camping Club, The Friday Morning Retirees Coffee Club and a member of Coca Cola Bowling Team for many years. Mike was an avid Arkansas Razorback Fan and never missed a home football game for over 50 years. Mike is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Margery Hief. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janet; son, Grant and wife Isabelle of Long Beach Calif.; son, Clark and wife, Wesley of Denver Colo.; grandsons, Reed Hill of Fayetteville; Schuyler, Spencer, Sterling Hill of Long Beach, Calif.; brother, John Hill and wife, Dorothy of Huntington Beach, Calif.; sister in-law, Katie Baker of Fort Smith. He is also survived by cousin, Ronny Ocker, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. January 28, 2017 at the Vicenza Villa Clubhouse, Sant Antonio Ave., Springdale, Ark. 72762 under the direction of Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale.
