Evelyn Ammons, 79, of Waldron, Arkansas passed away Jan. 28, 2017 in Waldron. She was born Oct. 2, 1937 in Scott County, Arkansas to the late Omer Brian and Maud L. Gimlin Ammons. Evelyn graduated from Waldron High School class of 1956. She was involved in sports which she enjoyed throughout her life both playing and watching and was an avid Arkansas Razorback fan. Evelyn served as Scott County and Circuit Clerk from 1979 to 1994 and in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1995-2001 serving as Assistant Speaker Pro-Tem in 1997. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Mevalene Ammons Ashford, Jerry Ammons Thompson and infant brother Omer Mondell Ammons. Evelyn is survived by a nephew Gary B. Ashford and wife Joan, niece Mechelle Thompson Bailey and husband Jeff, four great nieces and nephews and by three great-great-nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday Jan. 29, 2017 from 6-7 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday Jan. 30, 2017 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron with burial to follow at Pilot Prairie cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Home in Waldron. Pallbearers will be Wes Goodner, Larry C. Rice, Larry Taff, Myrtie Owens, Neal Speaks and Joe Don Rogers.
