James P Powell

James Preston Powell, age 76, of the "Y" community near Rison, died Tuesday, July 4, 2017. He was born September 5, 1940, in Bastrop, Louisiana, to Finis Preston and Leona Murphy Powell. Mr. Powell was a member of the Rison United Methodist Church, serving as Chairman of the Finance Committee for a number of years. He served in the Army in the Infantry. He retired from Simmons First National Corporation in December, after 32 years of service. Preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Anoel K. Dixon of El Dorado, Ark. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Koon Powell, whom he met while attending Arkansas A&M College, and went on to marry on September 3, 1966; one daughter, Dr. Tamara Powell (Richard Hutchinson) of Kennesaw, Ga.; son, Thomas Powell (Tiffany) of White Hall, Ark.; granddaughters, Brooklyn Michelle Powell and Addison Elizabeth Powell; brother- in-law, Robert Dixon. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 8, 2017, at 10 a.m., at Rison United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Wilson Cemetery, near the "Y" community. Visitation will be held July 7, 2017, Friday 6 p.m.-8 p.m., in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home.
