Mary Ruth Beckett

Mary Ruth Beckett, 95, of Little Rock, entered Heaven on Sunday, July 9, 2017. Mary Ruth was born on March 1, 1922 and was preceded in death by her parents, Varyne and William Chesnutt and half-brother, Louis Chesnutt. She is survived by her daughter, Varyne Beckett (Linda) of Little Rock; sons Allen Beckett (Joy) of Kure Beach, NC and Lewis Beckett of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mary Ruth was a faithful member of Pulaski Heights Baptist Church for over 70 years, lovingly serving in the Bed Babies Nursery, visiting nursing homes, and participating in Friendship International. Mary Ruth was also a proud member of the Women's Emergency Committee to Open Our Schools following the "Little Rock Nine" desegregation in 1958. The family wishes to thank the staff of Briarwood Nursing and Rehab and the staff of Kindred Hospice of Little Rock for their compassionate care of their mother. Memorials may be made to the Briarwood Activities Fund, 516 S. Rodney Parham Rd., Little Rock, Ark. 72205. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Oakland Cemetery, 2101 Barber St., Little Rock, Ark. 72206. Chaplain Scott Martin of Kindred Hospice will be officiating.
