Leona Blanche Mays Hampton of Fayetteville passed away, in her home, on July 17, 2017. She was born Feb. 17, 1931 in Mounds, Oklahoma to Thomas Owen Mac Mays and Nancie Abigail Holland Mays who preceded her in death. Leona will be remembered as a loving Christian woman who was proud to be called the mother of 12 children she birthed and raised. She was a gifted cook and well known for her baking of pies, cakes and sweet breads which tempted her family and friends. Church attendance and living a Christian life was a priority to her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Alvis James Hampton, one son, Garry Thomas Hampton, one daughter, Nancy Kathryn Holt and one grandson, Mark Hampton; five brothers, Charlie, Virgil, Hurston, Owen and Travis Mays; two sisters, Palma Mays and Blendene Burkett. Survivors include four sons, Joseph Hampton of Winslow, Samuel Hampton (Sheri) of Fayetteville, Nathaniel Hampton (Patricia) of Caldwell, Ind., and Paul Hampton (Charlette) of Little Rock; six daughters, Sharon Neel (Chester) of Anderson, Mo., Priscilla Warren (Donald) of Rogers, Janette Moon of Fayetteville, Patricia Juma of Fayetteville, Reba Hilton (Jerry) of Olathe, Kan., and LaCreta Wheeler (Daniel) of Kansas City, Mo.; 26 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Mays (Frances) of Overland Park, Kan., and one sister, Christene Solomon of Neosho, Mo. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Beard's Funeral Chapel of Fayetteville, Ark. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Pentecostals of NWA in Rogers, Ark. Burial will follow in Coyle Cemetery in Winslow, Ark., under the direction of Beard's Chapel.
