Clyde Hamilton Sites

Clyde Hamilton Sites was born July 23, 1925 in Sheridan, Arkansas. He was the son of William Hamilton Sites and Cora Blanche Knowles Sites. Clyde was an avid farmer and rancher in Altheimer, Arkansas until his retirement when he moved to Sheridan to enjoy his cattle farm. Clyde was a proud veteran who served in the navy during World War II and the army during the Korean Conflict. After the war Clyde attended the University of Arkansas and graduated with a degree in agriculture. While in school he was a member of Alpha Zeta and Gamma Sigma Delta honor societies. After graduation in 1957 Clyde joined the farm management team for Elms Planting Company at Altheimer and embarked on a 45 year agricultural career. In 1986 he was recognized as Jefferson County Farm Family of the Year. In 2004 his legacy was honored with the establishment of the Clyde H. Sites Endowed Professorship In International Crop Physiology by his alma mater, the Dale Bumpers College of Agriculture at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Clyde was very active in his community, especially his church. He was an active member of the Altheimer Methodist Church, where he served on many committees, as well as singing in the choir with his wife. Clyde was a member of the Altheimer School Board for 26 years, and also served on many other boards and community service organizations. Clyde was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandad, and his family was one of his highest priorities. Clyde was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Joyce Elizabeth Ashley Sites. He was the proud father of 6 children: daughter Pam (Butch) Thompson of Sheridan; sons, Steve (Marilyn) Sites and Pat Sites of Sheridan, David (Marcie) Sites of Stuttgart, Jerry (Joy) Sites of Beebe, and Terry (Michele) Sites of Manhattan, Kansas. He loved his 13 grandchildren, Kristy George, Cindy Howard, Butch Thompson Jr., Matthew Sites, Aaron Sites, Andrea Baker, Amy Landers, Andy Sites, Ashley Goodwin, Allison Sites, Alan Sites, Austin Sites, Jacey Sites; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Sheridan with Rev. Daniel Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial will follow at Sheridan Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, July 28, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O.
