Charles Andrew Gunnell

Charles Andrew Gunnell, born 10 June 1929 in Arkansas County, Arkansas to Andrew Jackson Gunnell and Ellen Grace (Gean) Gunnell, died June 6, 2017. After his 1947 DeWitt High School graduation, he began work for Riceland Foods, Inc. in Stuttgart, Ark., working there until his enlistment in the Navy in 1950. He served during the Korean War, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1954, after which he resumed employment with Riceland Foods. He held many positions with Riceland Foods during his employment, beginning as office boy earning 40 cents an hour and holding the position of Vice President for Finance and Secretary/Treasurer at the time of his retirement in 1987. Charles was a past member of the Arkansas County Quorum Court as well as a member of the Kiwanis Club. He was a faithful member of the Roe United Methodist Church. On 17 July 1955 Charles married (1) Mary Yvonne (Mitchell) Gunnell, daughter of Garrett Mason Mitchell and Thelma Pauline (Appleby) Mitchell; two sons were born to this union. On 16 April 1988 Charles married (2) Patricia Ann (James) Gunnell, daughter of Johnny Robert James and Melvin Jean (Gosha) James. In addition to his parents and spouse, Charles was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred (Gunnell) Mann and one brother, William Winfield Gunnell. He is survived by two sons, Charles David Gunnell (Gina) and John Douglas Gunnell (Sherri); three brothers: John Paul Gunnell (Martha); Alvin Eugene Gunnell; and James Larry Gunnell (Brenda); four sisters: Betty Gean Eifling; Dorothy Lou Inman (Robert); Gladys Johansson; and Nancy Taylor; three granddaughters: Jessica (Gunnell) Samuels; Bethany Gunnell; and Mary Jordan Gunnell; one great-grandson: Greyson Andrew Gunnell. Visitation will be Friday June 9, 2017 from 12-2 p.m. at Turpin Funeral Home with the service following at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery, Crocketts Bluff, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Shiloh Cemetery Association, 510 West 10th Street, Stuttgart, Arkansas 72160 or charity of the donor's choice.
