Dr. N. Dwight Heathman Jr.

Dr. N. Dwight Heathman Jr., 78 of Springdale passed away Friday, March 3, 2017 at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. He was born April 8, 1938 in Springfield, Mo., to Norman Dwight "Doc" Heathman Sr. and Hazel Calhoun Heathman. Dr. Heathman graduated from Huntsville High School in 1956. He served in the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer for four years. He attended Arkansas State University in the pre-dental program. He graduated from dental school from the University of Tennessee, College of Dentistry, Memphis in 1965 where he was a member of Xi Psi Phi Dental Fraternity. Dr. Heathman moved to the area in July of 1966 going to work as a Dentist for Dr. Oscar Kimbrough. He later opened his own practice in 1968. He retired in December 2000. Church was important; he was a member of First United Methodist Church in Springdale where he served on numerous church committees including the building committee, and also served as Chairman of the Board. He served his community faithfully in many ways including membership in the Springdale Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow and Past President. He was elected to the Springdale City Council where he served for six years, and served on the Shiloh Museum Board where he was a lifetime member, and a member of the original building committee. He was the Past President of the Northwest District Dental Society. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Bernice Jones and Carol Albert. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Helen Heathman of the home; one son, Dr. Montgomery Dwight Heathman and wife Kelli of Roland, Ark.; one daughter, Holly Elaine Reeves and husband Doug of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Zachary Dwight Heathman, Bayleigh Reeves and Malorie Reeves. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Springdale with Pastor Andrew Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Bluff Cemetery.
