Henry Leslie VanPelt, Jr., 84, of Sherwood passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017. He was born December 3, 1932 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Henry VanPelt, Sr. and Hazel VanPelt. He was preceded in death by parents; wife, Peggy and son, Michael. He is survived by his daughters, Janet VanPelt and Carol Taylor (Bobby); son, Gary VanPelt (Elwanda); daughter-in-law Kay VanPelt; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and soon to be eleven. Leslie was drafted on Friday, Feb. 13, 1953. On his return from boot camp he married Peggy, the love of his life and promptly received orders to go to Germany for 18 months. At the end of the war he began his career in Radio, progressing to television working as an engineer for KARK for 48 years. He enjoyed a sense of humor, always telling jokes and pulling pranks on others. The family is grateful for the personal kindness and professional care demonstrated by Baptist Health Hospice of Little Rock and Sherwood Rebab and Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 9 at Smith – North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel with a visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. He will be missed by his brother and sister. Online obituary at www.SmithFamilyCares.com.
