Robert Earl Porter

USAF MSGT Robert (Bob) Earl Porter, 80, born July 19, 1936, to parents Hobson and Irma Porter in Eclectic, Ala., departed this life on March 7, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospice Care, with his family by his side. His parents preceded him in death. He was Robert Earl to his mom, Shiney to family and friends in Alabama, Bob to his Arkansas family and friends, and Poppa Bob to the grandkids. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Comaletta; daughters, Cathy (Charles) McCrotty, Bryant, Kelli Scott and furry friend Sadie, Cabot; son Kevin Scott, Concord, Calif., granddaughter Jessica (Josh) Vaughn, Benton; grandson Joseph Scott, Phoenix, Ariz., great-grandson Gavin Melton, Benton; a very special extended family of three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, one nephew, six nieces, seven great-nephews, 10 great-nieces, and numerous relatives in Alabama. He was loved and will be missed by all. Bob retired after 20 years, six months in USAF, serving in Korean and Vietnam wars. He enjoyed four years as a hunting guide in Germany, and the travel involved. He received three medals while in the USAF, and several high-performance awards in USAF as well as V.A. Hospital, retiring after 20 years of service. He was a member of VFW, Jacksonville, and was a great supporter of veterans. After these retirements, he worked 10 years at Hindman and Rebsamen Golf Courses. Throughout his life, he enjoyed racquetball, skeet, golf, hunting and fishing (received several trophies for each), camping, and a cabin on the lake, anything that went fast — Bayliner and Bass Tracker Boats, two Honda Goldwing Motorcycles, and a yearly vacation of two months at the beach in Panama City Beach, Fla. Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts over the past 2½ months. He went peacefully and without pain. Many thanks to the Cabot Manor Nursing Home, their staff, and to Arkansas Hospice at the Manor and at St. Vincent's Hospital. He received excellent care, for which his family is very grateful. Visitation will be Saturday, March 11, 2017, from 12-1, with services to follow at 1, at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home, Searcy, Ark., with burial at Bethesda Cemetery, Rose Bud, Ark., with military honors.
