Wilma Jewel Black

Wilma Jewel (Leonard) Black was born April 10, 1923 in Damascus, Ark., to Joe and Bessie Leonard. She was married to O.G. Black who served and died in active duty in World War II. She then married John Black in 1946 and had one son, Pat; they lived in Damascus, Ark., for eight years. In 1955 they moved to Conway, Ark., where she lived until her death on March 10, 2017. In the 1940s, Wilma attended Arkansas State Teacher's College, which is now University of Central Arkansas. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in elementary education; she taught grade school in North Little Rock and fifth grade for Conway Public Schools for many years until retiring. She was a cherished member of Robinson Church of Christ in Conway, Ark. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and friend to all. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her first husband O.G. Black, husband John Patrick "Papa" Black, her only son, John Patrick, "Pat" Black, her sisters Lucille and Imogene Leonard and brother Joe Eldon Leonard. She is survived by her two grandchildren –John (Becky) Black of Springfield, Mo., and April (Louis) Krenn and her five great grandchildren-Morgan Black, Wesley Black, Kate Black and Weston Krenn and Ava Krenn, her sister Eulene Bradford, and several nieces, nephews, and relatives. Wilma spent many of her days quilting and crocheting beautiful blankets for others. She blessed her grandchildren and many friends and families with her handmade materials. She loved to read books and enjoyed sitting on her swing admiring flowers, hummingbirds, and cars passing by. She was strong in spirit, humble, generous and kind. She was easy to love and her love will leave its legacy for many generations. Roller McNutt Funeral Home Conway will be handling the funeral services. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday March 13 and Tuesday March 14, 2017 during normal business hours. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 21 at 2 p.m. at Robinson Church of Christ, 1505 Robinson Ave, Conway Ark., 72034.
