Byron Gregory Brumley, 89, of Malvern, passed from this life to heaven on Sunday, March 12, at Saline Memorial Hospital Hospice in Bryant, Ark., surrounded by his wife and family. Byron is preceded in death by his parents; his only sister, Geneva Corbin; and four brothers, Leon Brumley, Gene Brumley, Everett Brumley, and Bruce Brumley. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Louise Shaeffer Brumley whom he married on February 16, 1950 after dating only five weeks. He is also survived by his children, sons Jeff Brumley and wife Krista of Tulsa, Okla., Joe Brumley of Malvern, and daughter, Susie Everett and husband Dwight of Benton; seven precious grandchildren, Jesse Brumley, Nicole Amaro, Sheila LaRosa, Ashley Nick, Dustin Brumley, Christa Hudspeth, and Anna Hendrix; and 18 great grandchildren. Byron was raised in Eureka Springs, Ark., and moved to Tulsa, Okla., when he was 16. He graduated from Tulsa's Central High School in 1946, and soon after joined the U.S. Air Force. In 1963, he graduated with honors from Tulsa University with a degree in Accounting. He accomplished this while working nights and raising a family. In 1967, Byron accepted a job with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arkansas, and moved his family from Keystone, Okla., to Benton. In 1976, Byron and Louise opened Brumley Feed and Seed in Malvern, where they worked alongside each other every day until they retired in 1996. These were treasured years for them. Byron loved his Lord and his family, and was a wonderful Dad and "Pop Pop". He accepted the Lord as his savior in 1954. His devotion to the Lord and his love for his family was evident in all he did. He served faithfully in his local Baptist Church as a Sunday School teacher and a deacon. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Malvern. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017, in the chapel of Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton (501-315-4047), with Rev. John Horton and Dr. Rick Grant officiating. Pallbearers are Chad Hendrix, Brandan Hudspeth, Danny Boyles, Doug Keisler, Ronnie Joe Hutchison, Jesse Brumley, and Dustin Brumley. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Interment will be at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Rockport Cemetery in Malvern. Memorials may be given to the Arkansas Baptist Children's Homes, and/or Saline Memorial Hospital Hospice House, 23157 I-30, Bryant, Ark. 72022. A special note of love and thanks to his caregivers at Saline Memorial Hospital and Saline Memorial Hospice House, especially the care given in hospice by his "brother" Richard Schaeffer.
