Sara Chester Shoemaker, 99, of Little Rock died, March 14, 2017. She was born in Paris, Texas on August 21, 1917. She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, John A. Shoemaker. She had a lifelong dedication to Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She was a member for 80 years and served in leadership roles at every level including serving on the national Executive Board. In 1996 she received the Sorority's highest honor with the Ernestine Block Grigsby Award as the most outstanding alumna in the nation. Sara was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for 70 years and was a longtime member of the Gilbert Marshall Chapter in Little Rock. She was also a faithful member of Pulaski Heights Baptist Church. Sara is survived by her "adopted son" and caretaker, Tom Hicks, Little Rock; cousins, Lynn Wall, Amarillo, Texas; Janelle Berger, New Braunfels, Texas; Gerald Williams, New Braunsfels, Texas; and Linda Williams, Houston, Texas. A private burial will be held at Roselawn Cemetery. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 2:30 p.m., Friday, March 17, 2017 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkansas 72211. (501) 224-8300.
