Edna G. Hemphill

Edna Grace Hemphill, 95, died Saturday, March 11, 2017. Edna was preceded in death by her husband of eighteen years, Col. James Hemphill and daughter, Kathryne Patterson of Bebee, Ark. She is survived by her sister, Agnes Jensen of Kettering, Ohio, two children, Vicki Bowen of San Antonio, Texas, and Matthew Sego of Little Rock, Ark., six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Edna was born on Dec. 20, 1921, in Des Moines, Iowa, to William and Nora Hale. Edna's mother died in childbirth and Edna and her sister were subsequently raised by their father and paternal grandmother. She married Co. James Hemphill in 1975 and moved to Harlingen, Texas, that following year after retiring from Reynolds Metal in Bauxite, Ark. Edna was a past volunteer at Valley Baptist Hospital, a member of La Feria Methodist church where she sang in the choir and at one time a member of the DOE's and Sweet Adeline's choral group. Edna will be buried with her husband at Fort Sam Houston cemetery in San Antonio.
