Missionary MARY HUDSON GILBERT, 85, of Little Rock departed this life on March 22, 2017. She was preceded in death by: parents, Jasper & Media Hudson; sisters, Travistine Jeffries, Margret Savage, Collentine Amos, and Zula Gill; brother, Henry Hudson; and grandsons, Penze Wine and Gabriel Carter. On Feb. 23, 1957, she was united in holy matrimony to Garland Gilbert. She was educated in the Little Rock public school system, graduated from St. Bartholomew Catholic High School in 1950 and graduated from Dunbar Jr. College in 1955. She also took classes in Child Day Care training, and attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff; and was a small business owner for 25 years as an in-home child day center owner. Mrs. Gilbert confessed her belief in Christ at the age of eight (8) at the Sweethome Church of God In Christ, and she was a member of Waters Temple Church of God In Christ where she has served for 37 years under the leadership of Superintendent Vernon Briscoe. She has worked in various capacities in the church including, choir member, Sunday School teacher, President of Mother's Board, President of Deacon Wives Circle, District level Sunday School, Sunday School Secretary, State Missionary License Board. Prior to her passing, she was a devoted member of the Holy Temple Cathedral Church of God in Christ. She has worked under the leadership of the late Bishop Jones and Bishop Walker, and she currently served under the leadership of Bishop Jewel Withers Jr. of the Arkansas First Jurisdiction. She served as a church Board Member, on the Mother's Board, and as the District Missionary of the Woodson District. She was also a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veteran of Foreign Wars. Missionary Mary Gilbert leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Garland Gilbert; children, Mary Ann (Peter) Robinson, Garland Gilbert Jr., Tina Gilbert, Jeanette Carol (Andre) Davis; siblings, Molice Wilkins, Little Rock, Ark., Carolyn Hudson, Los Angeles, Calif., four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends. She will be missed by all who loved her and affectionately referred to her as "The Bishop". Family Hour: Thursday, 6-8 p.m. Funeral: Friday, 10 a.m. both at Holy Temple Cathedral COGIC.
