Ruth Elizabeth Windham

Ruth Elizabeth Pillman Windham peacefully went home to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 26, 2017. Affectionately known as MoMo to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ruth was born on September 26, 1923, in Spring Creek, Mo. She was one of seven children born to Benjamin Bonner Pillman and Mary Elizabeth Dillon Pillman. She grew up in south-central Missouri and met her future husband, R.W. "Windy" Windham, at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., where he was stationed during the early years of World War II. They were married at Camp Plauche Chapel in New Orleans, La., on April 12, 1944. Ruth and Windy started their family upon his return from Europe after the war. Their only daughter, Sharon Kay Windham Heflin, was born in late 1946. They spent all of their early married years in Little Rock, then moved to St. Louis for a dozen years before retiring to Maumelle in the late 1980s. Besides being an involved mother and grandmother and doting great-grandmother, Ruth was an active member of the DAR, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (BLE) Auxiliary, Maumelle Country Club Ladies Golf Association, and Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. In her later years, one of her favorite things to do was to babysit her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed helping them learn to do new things, especially hitting golf balls. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, Ben and Elizabeth Pillman; her husband of nearly 65 years, R.W. "Windy" Windham; her six siblings, Louise Duncan, Norma Jo Eskierka, Marjorie Ellen Dunivin, Jane Terry, Bennie Blanche Pillman, and John Henry Pillman III; and her son-in-law, John L. Heflin, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Kay Windham Heflin of Little Rock; her sister-in-law, Evelyn Windham of Perryville; her grandchildren, Marc and Billie Heflin and Jay and Andrea Heflin all of Little Rock; and her great-grandchildren, Grace, Sarah, Ben, and Anna Heflin all of Little Rock; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and a host of dear friends. A memorial service will be held at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church on Wednesday, March 29, beginning at 11 a.m. Reverend Lynn W. Lindsey will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, Alzheimer's Arkansas, or the not-for-profit organization of your choice.
