Dixie Gayle Buchanan, 80, of Cabot, passed away quietly in her sleep Tuesday, March 28, 2017. She was born on August 11, 1936 in New Cambria, Kansas to the late Karl and Barbara Gillman. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother; Daryl Gillman, and three little blessings who did not survive childbirth. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, James C "Buck" Buchanan, her children; Barbara Beth Buchanan (Spring, Texas) and William "Bill" and Cassandra Buchanan (Spring, Texas); grandchildren Kristin Buchanan (Senior at Johnson & Wales in Providence, R.I.) and Jacob Buchanan (Freshman and student athlete on the Rifle Team at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio); brother, David and Lisa Gillman (Frisco, Texas), and a host of nieces and nephews. Dixie was a teacher for 36 years in Pulaski County Special School District and Temple, Texas teaching science, PE, DECA, gymnastics, and was the drill team and cheerleading sponsor. Upon retirement from teaching, she worked selling real estate and was a member of the Cabot Planning Commission. She also worked for H&R Block preparing taxes. She loved singing in the church choir, traveling, gaming at the casinos, playing bridge, watching the razorbacks, and watching her grandchildren pursue all their many interests. She was active in the local community as a participating member in the First Presbyterian Church Jacksonville; Jacksonville Evening Lioness Club, where she served as both secretary and president; Arkansas Vocational Board Member; Jacksonville Razorback Club; Arkansas DECA; and Cabot Lioness Club where she was president. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, with Reverend Debbie Freeman officiating. Entombment will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum in North Little Rock. A visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, March 31, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1208 West Main Street, Jacksonville, Ark. 72076.
