Alfred R. Waggoner

Alfred R. Waggoner, 89, of Stuttgart passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017. Alfred was born February 11, 1928 in Stuttgart, Arkansas to Eustace Rubel and Alice Dell (Johnson) Waggoner. He was a lifelong resident of Stuttgart. He had only one job from adolescence until retirement as a mechanic at Waggoner Magneto, Colo., a company founded by his father in 1930. He was drafted into the Army in 1950. After his marriage to Rose Mary Wittenauer in April 1951. He was stationed in Germany where he was in charge of a company of men helping to rebuild Germany after WWII. Upon being discharged, he returned to work at his father's business. In the early 1960's, he purchased Waggoner Magneto Co. from his father, built a new building, and continued running the business until his retirement in 2010. He was a successful Yazoo mower dealer, enjoyed gardening, model trains and amateur photography. In the 60's and 70's, he volunteered his time and energy to help set up the race courses at Stuttgart Airport for the "Grand Prairie Grand Prix." He also helped out with tractor pulls with the "Stuttgart Sled Association." He was preceded in death by his spouse, Rose Mary (Wittenauer)Waggoner. Survivors are one brother, Roger Carl Waggoner of Texas; two sons, Charles Thomas Waggoner, of Delaware and James Robert Waggoner of Stuttgart; two daughters, Martha Ellen Waggoner of Iowa and Barbara Jo Wood of Alaska; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Memorial service date and time to be announced at a later date. Cremation arrangements by Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen.
