Janet Merriman, 66, died Thursday, May 4, 2017, at St. Bernard's Hospital. She was born July 20, 1950 to J.C. and Georgia Mahon. She was a graduate of Jonesboro High School, where she was an outstanding clarinetist. She also participated in band while earning her degree at the University of Arkansas. She went on to earn a Master's degree in Nutrition Sciences at the University of Kentucky. Janet worked for the Arkansas Health Department for 37 years before retiring in 2013. She enjoyed shopping, reading, tennis, and calling the Hogs. She was an active member for many years with First Baptist Church. She took many trips, including to the US Open Tennis Tournament, Yellowstone, California, New Hampshire and many visits with her granddaughters – including most recently to Disney World. Janet is preceded in death by her parents; an aunt, Vanita Trevathan; uncles, Larry Mahon and Willis Broadaway. Janet is survived by her husband of 35 years, Steve; daughter, Katie (Matt) Hoehne; two granddaughters Norah Jane and Riley Eliza Hoehne; sister, Marcia Griffith (David); niece, J.J. Springer (Derek), and cousins, Lisa Trevathan, Steve Broadaway, Vince Mahon, and Jeff Mahon. Her family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m., Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 8, 2017 at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Venable officiating. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be at noon at First Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Venable officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, Northeast Arkansas Humane Society, the University of Arkansas Bumper College of Agricultural, Food & Life Sciences, or the MD Anderson Cancer Center Glioblastoma Moon Shot program.
