Betty Jo Koon, 81, of Paron passed away peacefully on May 8, at home, surrounded by her family. She was born on Nov. 12, 1935 to the late, Herbert McHughes and Zelma Long-McHughes. She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruby Kerr, Bobbie Nichols, Sara Garrett and Mary Modlin; son-in-law, Tony Waters. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Lee Edward Koon; daughters, Betty Waters (Danny), Sharon Waters and Tina Leslie (Gary); nephew she raised as her own son, Marcus Modlin Jr. (Debbie); grandchildren, Sonya Goodwin (Kent), Allen Waters and James Lee Flowers Jr.; great-grandchildren, Nic Goodwin, Carter Goodwin, Preston Goodwin, Capree Free, Tre' Davis, Brady Baker and Brantlee Baker and a host of family and friends who all loved her and will miss her dearly. Betty was a member of Smyrna Church in Paron. She was a housewife and had very special relationships with her nieces, nephews, grandkids and great grandkids all of whom she babysat in their youth. Her house was always full of the laughter and craziness of the kids that she loved and that very much loved her. She enjoyed bowling, bingo and in her later years she was entertained by scratch-offs. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 18 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 27025 Kanis Road, Little Rock, Ark. The family will receive visitors at a potluck lunch immediately after in the fellowship hall.
