James "Ron" Roy, 78 Of Sherwood, AR, was born December 2, 1938, in Trumann, Ark. to Thurel G. and M. Ruth McDaniel Roy (both deceased). Went to be with the Lord May 15, 2017. He was a descendant of Abraham McDaniel, pioneer family of Craighead County. Griffin/Leggett Rest Hills of Sherwood is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be Friday at 10 a.m. and funeral at 11 a.m.at the First Baptist Church of Sherwood. Ron graduated from Nettleton High School 1957 and went into the Air Force where he served for 12 years. He served two tours during the Vietnam conflict and his last station was at the Little Rock Air Force Base, after which he was medically retired. After retirement he went to college and graduated from Arkansas State University. He first worked as foreman for the General Electric Company in Jonesboro. Later moved to Sherwood and went to work for the State of Arkansas in the Energy Department as a Grants Administrator and from there worked and retired with 25 years of service from Arkansas Industrial Development Commission. He served on various boards and commissions after retirement, such as the CATA Board, the Police Commissioner for Sherwood, and was Chairman of the NHS Golden Years Reunion for several years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Deacon of his church. He loved his church and active in the different meetings of the men's groups. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 56 years, Jimmie Carol Williams Roy of the home; one son, Ty Roy of Sherwood and one daughter, Ronda Roy of Mayflower; two sisters of Jonesboro, Lavonda Roy Kunst and Dawanda (Tommy) Roy Carter; brother-in-law, Dwight Williams of Sherwood; sister-in-law, Brenda (Royce) Leonard of Jonesboro and sister-in-law, Linda (Jim) Williams Adair of Jonesboro; grandchildren: Austin Hulett, Ashley Hulett, Christy Roy Williams (Willie), Jenna Roy and Tyna Roy; great-grandchildren: Nathan, Cyron, Erin and Samantha Williams. Interment will be at the Nettleton Cemetery in Jonesboro, Ark. at a later date and time.
