Gerald Wayne "G.W." Quarles, 68, of Swan Lake, died Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the VA Hospital in Little Rock. He was born Sept. 9, 1948 in Camden, son of William Alfred and Florence Beatrice Vincent Quarles. Gerald was reared and received his early education in White Hall, graduating from White Hall High School. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After the war, Gerald worked for the Pine Bluff Arsenal, where he retired as an architectural engineer. He was a member of Cross Roads Christian Fellowship Church and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Gerald enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles Rowland Quarles and Jeffrey Waylon Quarles; and sister, Lessie Quarles Davis. Survivors include his wife, Janet Lynn Smith Quarles, whom he married Aug. 14, 2010 five children, Tammy (Jimmy) Smith, Mark (Paula) Quarles, Jeff (Rhonda) Quarles, Mary Margaret (Dewayne) Ray and Amber Marie Johnson; two brothers, Howard Quarles and Bobby Ray Quarles; five grandchildren, MiRanda (Chris) McVay, Brook Cummings, Blair Quarles, Dalton Ray and Donnie Ray; and two great-grandchildren, Harper and Cooper Moseley. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Cross Roads Christian Fellowship Church with Pastor John Bean officiating. Memorials may be made to Cross Roads Christian Fellowship Church, 9833 McKevin Road, Pine Bluff, Ark., 71603.
