Mrs. Minnie "Artiller" Canady Caldwell, 94, of Little Rock died November 5, 2017. She was born August 14, 1923 in the Conway County Community to Isaac and Cynthia (Mitchem) Canady of Hattieville, Arkansas. She accepted Christ at a young age and attended Center School in Hattieville and moved to Little Rock to pursue a higher education at Dunbar High School. Artiller met and married IV Caldwell. Shortly thereafter, he accepted his call to ministry, and together they worked hard and reared their children with discipline, a love for God and a good work ethic. They were married for 68 years. Upon the arrival of their grandchildren, Artiller became "Big Mama" to everyone. Big Mama was a dedicated servant, faithful wife, and loving mother. After her husband's retirement from the pastorate, they worshipped at St. Peter's Rock, and later joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor C. Dennis Edwards II where they would each serve the remainder of their days. Mrs. Caldwell was an active member of the Mothers' Board. In 2017, she was honored by Robinson Omnimedia as a woman of wisdom with the Gospel Celebration of Wisdom Award. Mother Caldwell leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Allene Coates Davis of Oakland, California; and her sons: Gerald Caldwell (Gracie) and Minister Thurman Caldwell (Marcy) of Kansas City, Missouri; and Dr. Carlton Caldwell (Aurita) of St. Louis, Missouri. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. I.V. Caldwell, and sons: Ivory and John Caldwell and all her siblings. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church at 2501 S. Main, Little Rock, Ark. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. at the Church. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to the legacy, Hubble Funeral Home, 1213 E. Washington Ave., North Little Rock, Ark. 72114, (501) 374-3134.
