Neil F. Bates, 87, of Jonesboro formerly of Petit Jean Mountain passed from this life on Monday, November 6, 2017 at Morningside of Jonesboro with family by his side. Neil was born in Toltec, Ark. on August 6, 1930 to the late Ben F and Ellie Chambers Bates. He lived in the central Arkansas area before moving to Jonesboro. Neil spent most of his career as a sales representative working for Haverty, Deville, McAfee, Davidson, and Hooker Furniture. He was an award winning sales representative, and inducted into the Arkansas Furniture Association Hall of Fame. He retired with 22 years' experience from the Hooker Furniture Company in 2004. While living in Jonesboro he and his wife Bernice were members of the Southwest Church of Christ. He loved to cook and while he was able to he served on the Cooking Team at Southwest Church of Christ. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Chester Bates and Chuck Bates. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Bernice Maglothin Bates of Jonesboro; son, Frankie(Cheryl) Bates of Shiner, Texas, granddaughters, Missy (Bryan) Quinn of Conway, Amanda (Sean) Page of Little Rock; daughter, Francis Lindsey of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren, Shelly Anderson of Culver City, Calif., Dennis Lindsey of Anniston, Ala., Dylan Lindsey of Pensacola, Fla.; son, Dr. Doug (Deborah) Maglothin of Jonesboro, grandchildren, Angelia Herren of Jonesboro, Emily Maglothin of Jonesboro, and Doug (Leigh Ann) Maglothin of Jonesboro; son, Scotty Maglothin of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Ezra Maglothin of Fayetteville, Erin Maglothin of Fayetteville; daughter, Linda Bailey of Trumann; grandchildren, Tyler Bailey of Little Rock and Lindsey Bailey of Jonesboro; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Benny Bates Winterhaven, Fla. and Freddie Bates of Dallas, Texas. Funeral service was Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Adcox and Chris Harrell officiating. Interment took place at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
