Marlin B. Hoge

Dr. Marlin Boyd Hoge of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Nov. 14th, 2017. He was born October 16, 1914 in Fort Smith, son of the late Dr. Arthur F. Hoge and Lillie Belle Boyd Hoge of Fort Smith. He was a graduate of Tulane University and M.D. in 1940. He served 4 years in the US Army during WWII where he spent 2 years in the Northwest Service Command on the Alaska Highway, and one year in the European Theater with an evacuation Hospital. He was a practicing surgeon in Fort Smith from 1945 to 1993and was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and past president of the Arkansas Chapter for two years. He was a member of the Southwest Surgical Association, past President of the Sebastian County Medical Society, and a member of the American Medical Association. He was a staff member of St. Edward Mercy Medical Center and Sparks Regional Medical Center. He was past Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff for St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, and a member of the Advisory Board. He was a member of the Noon Civics Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Director of the City National Bank 1956 to 1991. He was an active member of Immaculate Catholic Church. He is survived by one daughter, Catherine N. Hoge of Little Rock, Ark.; one son, Rollins G. Hoge and wife Debbie of Fort Smith; four grandchildren, Michelle Smain of Conway, Ark., Ruth Hoge of Seattle, Wash., Miranda Hoge of Fort Smith, and Alex Hoge and wife Cathryn of Fort Smith; four great-grandchildren, Audrey Swain of Conway, Spencer Swain of Conway, Corbin Hoge of Fort Smith, and Kiran Deceur Mitchell of Seattle Washington. He was predeceased by his wife Martha Nell Greenwood Hoge, and a son Marlin Hoge Jr. A Rosary will be said Friday, November 17th 2017 at 6 p.m. in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel and a Memorial Mass will be said Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 9 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Cremation and services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, November 17th from 5 p.m. until Rosary begins.
