Barbara Sullivan Angel

BARBARA SULLIVAN ANGEL, age 77, of Little Rock died Nov. 16, 2017. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Little Rock. Barbara was the retired Executive Director of the Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants (ASCPA). The ASCPA is a Professional Organization for CPAs with a membership of over 3500. Barbara loved her job and the people with whom she worked, both staff and members. She considered it a privilege to be able to work in a job that she loved so much. She worked many more hours than the job required and always looked forward to the next day. She began her career with the ASCPA in 1975, and worked there for 38 years before her retirement in 2013. Barbara worked outside her home almost her entire life. At the age of 10, she was cleaning other people's houses and babysitting; and when she was 12, she started working at her first "real job" as a clerk in Sterling's Department Store in downtown Little Rock. From then until her retirement, she worked full time except when she attended school, and then she worked part time. Barbara graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1958 (the year of the Integration Crisis). She attended evening classes at UALR, where she maintained a grade point of 4.0. As so many girls in the fifties did, Barbara married her high school sweetheart, Hobart Sullivan, at a very young age. After 28 years of marriage, which produced four children, they divorced. Like many couples who marry too young, as they grew up, they grew apart. In 1986, Barbara fell in love with C. M. "Mac" Angel, and they were married in 1987. Her years with him were probably the happiest years of her life, as well as his. Mac always said he never knew there could be so much love and openness in a family as in Barbara's. Barbara and Mac were perfect for each other; and they always said God and the "Angels among us" brought us together. Many people who were around them and saw their happiness referred to them as "Soul Mates". This marriage ended in 1995, after only nine years of happiness, when Mac (the love of Barbara's life) died of cancer. Barbara never fully got over the loss, and always felt Mac's spirit was still with her. She looked forward to being with him again in Heaven. Even though it was necessary for Barbara to always work outside of the home, and even though she was dedicated and loved her job at the Arkansas Society of CPAs, her real joy and happiness were her children, and later her grandchildren, too. Barbara always had time for her children and their activities, as well as her grandchildren. Over the years, she attended many ballgames, plays, pageants and other activities of her children and grandchildren. She loved them all unconditionally and with all her heart. They were not only her family, but her best friends. She was happiest when she was with them. They will tell you today, she taught them the love of God, good work ethics and confidence in themselves. Their lives today attest to this. All of them are responsible adults with exceptional careers; and they all love God. In addition to raising her own four children, Barbara also raised two nephews and a niece, who today are fine adults, who love God. Their children were Barbara's great-nieces and nephews; however, she considered them her grandchildren, too. Holidays at Barbara's house consisted of fun, food and the gathering of 30 to 50 family members. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, C. M. "Mac" Angel; her parents, Joe W. and Violet Gee Vann; her brothers, Fred Leon Vann, Warren W. "Bill" Greenwich, and Joe W. Vann and four sisters, Betty Vann Hartwick, Jewel McGill Timms, Violet Evelyn Dunn, and Jeannie Irvin Bland. She is survived by one son, Hobart Lee "Bart" Sullivan; three daughters, Angela Marie Lowe, Jamie Renee' Kuhn and Alicia "Tyke" Troutman; one daughter-in-law, Robbie Rowland Sullivan; and three sons-in-law, Alan 'Buz" Lowe, Bradley Morris and Michael F. Kuhn; a niece who lives in the home, Sharon Vann; two nephews she raised, Herbert "Herb" Newman and Leon Vann, as well as many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as great-great nieces and nephews, whom she loved very much. She is also survived by eight grandchildren„ Violet Renee' White, Lauren Olivia Sullivan, Emily Jewel Sullivan, Ashley Elizabeth Young, Korbin Micha Kuhn, MacKenzie Angel Kuhn, Dakotah Bartlee Troutman, and Grayson Ty Troutman. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Pkwy., Little Rock, Ark., (501) 224-8300. Funeral services are 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at First Church of the Nazarene, 1200 North Mississippi, Little Rock, with Reverend Ron McCormick, officiating. Reverend James Daniel, Reverend Bob Howard, and Reverend Dan Casey will also be speaking. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery beside her beloved Mac. Pallbearers are her grandsons, Dakotah Troutman and Grayson Troutman; sons-in-law, Buz Lowe, Mike Kuhn, and Brad Morris; and nephew, Herb Newman. Honorary pallbearers are: John Peace, Dick Hatfield, Bill Booker, Stan Kozij, Jimmie Shannon, Jim Petty, W. L. Cook, Gene Cogbill, Pradeep Sapkota, and Sushil Subedi. Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene Building Fund, 1200 North Mississippi, Little Rock, Ark., 72207, in memory of Barbara.
