Heaven gained a true angel with the passing of Mrs. Katherine "Kitty" Parham Price, 92, of Jonesboro, Ark. Kitty departed this world on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017. She was born to Irving Vallandigham Parham and Lucille Aston Loyd Parham on Oct. 16, 1925, in Petersburg, Va. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Kitty graduated from The Virginia State Teachers College at Farmville, Va., in 1946. A stellar student, she received a double major in History and Childhood Education. She taught first grade for three years in Petersburg, Va. In 1948, Kitty met the love of her life, Captain Herbert Hamilton Price Jr. with the United States Army. They were married on June 15, 1950. Kitty enjoyed her life as an army wife, and they were stationed in Japan, Germany, and various other assignments in the United States. He retired as a Lt. Colonel, earned his Doctorate, and moved his family to Jonesboro, where Dr. Price taught in the College of Business at Arkansas State University, from 1967-1979. Kitty was well known in the community and was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro, the ASU Faculty Women's Club and various bridge clubs. Kitty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dr Herbert Hamilton Price Jr. in 1979. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Carol Hawkins of Petersburg, Va., I. Val Parham Jr. of Petersburg, Va., Lucille Crane of Litchfield, Conn., and Frances Jeanes of Orange, Va. She is survived by her three sons, Dr. Herbert Hamilton Price III (Bert) and wife Cindy of Little Rock; Val Parham Price and wife Leah of Jonesboro; and William Loyd Price Sr. of Jonesboro. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Staff Sgt. Herbert Hamilton Price IV., of the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors based in Fort Meade, Md., & wife Shiva; Mary Price Elkins and husband Daniel of San Antonio, Texas; Ron Young of Jonesboro; Jonathan Young and wife Becky of Jonesboro; Katherine Virginia (Katie) Light and husband Dave of Fayetteville; Mollie Aston Price-Blackshear and husband Nick of Columbia, Mo.; Abigail Leah Price of Jonesboro; Katherine Francis Price of Bartlett, Tenn.; and SPC William Loyd Price Jr., with the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Ky. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, Nov. 20, at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro. A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. that afternoon with John Miles officiating.
