Barbara Aileen Poe Hammett

Barbara Aileen Poe Hammett, 100, passed away in her sleep on November 24, 2017 in Indiana, Pa. Born on January 25, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo., she was the only child of William A. Poe and Nettie L. Anderson. Barbara grew up in Branch, Lake Norfolk, and Russellville, Ark., but spent most of her life in Little Rock, Ark. Barbara met Jack Curtis Hammett (1916-1987) at the Little Rock Baptist Young Peoples' Union and they were married from 1936 until his death. They were both active members of Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock, participating in worship and Sunday school classes for many years. Barbara was an accomplished elementary school teacher and later worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield. Barbara was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Carol A. Hammett (1939-2000). She is survived by her only child, Jack C. Hammett Jr. (Sharon), of Paeonian Springs, VA, her two granddaughters, Laura K. Millard (Charles B.) of Frederick, Md., and Lisa Hammett Price (Jon) of Indiana, Pa. She was beloved great-grandmother of Joshua C. Price, Caleb L. Price and Charles Brian Millard. Barbara will be greatly missed by many friends in Little Rock and at Rustic Manor Personal Care Home in Indiana, Pa. There will be no visitation. Internment will be private at Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock, Ark. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Immanuel Baptist Church. www.lefdahlfuneralhome.com.
