Madie Marian Peterson, née Thomas, age 94, died on October 9, 2017 in North Little Rock, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Betancourt Peterson; her parents, Al and Dora Thomas; and siblings, Kelly Thomas, Pat Gold and Jim Thomas. Madie is survived by her children: Michael Peterson (Marilyn), of Golden, Colo.; Robert Peterson (Susan), of Houston, Texas; Dr. Mark Peterson (Betty), of North Little Rock; Cathy (Mike), of Austin, Ark.; many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Madie graduated from Beebe High School. She was a cheerleader and an athlete, winning many basketball trophies. Madie survived the Great Depression, met and married the love of her life Mike. They had two children during World War II and had two more children later in life. She was an avid Razorback basketball and football fan and an accomplished cook. She was a devoted Catholic attending St. Patrick Catholic Church for over 50 years. She served in the Ladies Guild, the Altar Society, and the adult choir. Madie made Cursillos in Christianity, and was involved in several mission trips to Mexico. Visitation will be held at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills, 7724 Landers Road in North Little Rock on Friday, October 13, at 5 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Joseph Chan at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 211 West 19th Street in North Little Rock on Saturday, October 14, at 11 a.m. A graveside service will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Little Rock.
