Betty John Weatherford of North Little Rock died peacefully in her sleep, Sunday, October 8th. She was born in Santa Rosa, Texas on August 14, 1931 and moved to NLR several years later. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert John L. Vandever, mother Evy Mae "Nano" Mateer, father John L. Gilliam, and sisters Nettie Mae Jimmeson and Mary Ellen Hall. Betty was a devoted mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Her grandsons Brad and Reid were the delight of her life. Through high school she seldom missed a soccer, baseball or basketball game either of them played in, and "Granny" was known and loved by all the players and families. As a sought after caregiver, she enriched the lives of several families, providing long term care and love for their aging parents, becoming like family to them. The last two years of her life were spent at Lakewood Nursing and Rehab Center with her dear friend and roommate Hazel Lawson, enjoying the many activities, field trips and banquets they provided while receiving excellent care. Our family would like to thank all of them for their support and help during this time of her life. She is survived by son Sam Weatherford and wife Beth (whom she loved dearly), of Sherwood, grandsons Brad Weatherford and wife Megan, Reid Weatherford and wife Alicia, great-grandchildren, Stella Kay, Weston James and Grace Elaine all of North Little Rock. Services are private. The family has requested any memorials be made to North Little Rock Friends of the Animals. Funeral arrangements made under the direction of Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock (501)791-7400. Online guestbook: www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/owens.
