Harry R. Alward, 85, passed away Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017. Harry was born in Canton, Ohio, on April 1, 1932. He attended Purdue University and left to serve in the United States Army. He met Lois Divers while they were both attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and they were married in 1956. After graduation, they moved to Dallas, Texas. Later his career took them to Florida and Nebraska, where he started a successful company that provided residential security and fire-detection systems. They retired to Fayetteville in 1995. He enjoyed running marathons and biking. He could repair anything and everything. His sense of humor was widely known and enjoyed. He is survived by his wife, Lois; his children, Debra Alward (Art Maxwell) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Richard Alward (Tamera Minnick) of Grand Junction, Colo.; and Pamela (Douglas) Thomas of Omaha, Neb.; and grandchildren, Harrison Alward Smith, Claire Thomas, Faith Thomas and Grant Thomas. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Moore's Chapel. The memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. on November 12 in the concert hall at Butterfield Trail Village, 1923 E. Joyce Boulevard, Fayetteville, Ark. 72703. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be sent to the National Autism Association, 1 Park Avenue, Suite 1, Portsmouth, R.I. 02871.
