Harold Dean Alexander - If you noticed the incredible cotton-candy sunrise on Friday, October 20th, 2017, it was announcing the entrance to heaven of a local Springdale treasure. Harold Dean "Coach A" Alexander was taken to be with his heavenly Father after 73 years of full life on God's green earth. His death was a surprise to us all, but his life is one that was lived, enjoyed, and well invested for the sake of others. He was a teacher and a coach to hundreds, a mentor to many, a colleague, and a friend. To those who had the honor of being family, he was "Poppy," Dad, Brother, or Uncle Dean. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Mary Anne Alexander, and infant brother John. Cherishing his memory are his loving wife, Janice "Soph" Alexander; his sons & daughters: Steve Alexander and wife Patti of Springdale, Kristin Winters and husband Bill of Springdale, Brad Alexander and wife Melanie of Allen, Texas; his brother, Leslie Alexander and wife Linda of Ankeny, Iowa; his sister, Carol Bellinghausen and husband Bill of League City, Texas; as well as 8 grandchildren: Zack Winters, Samuel Alexander, Erin Alexander, Luke Alexander, Sarah Winters, Evan Alexander, Hannah Winters, Davis Alexander, and many nieces and nephews. In effort to summarize a life, his was that of an Iowan farm boy, ace left-handed pitcher, Army veteran, turned teacher/coach, turned Springdale Motel owner/operator, turned salesman, concrete worker/swimming pool contractor, and then back again to teacher/coach/school bus driver. He continually claimed he never knew what he wanted to be when he grew up. At 73, although he had done plenty of things in life, he had yet to grow up. We lost one of the good guys this week. And while we mourn his sudden loss, the family is grateful for his faith in and commitment to Jesus Christ. Through this faith, we know where he is, and we look forward to seeing him again, but until then he'll be busy worshiping and reuniting with those who have gone before him. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, October 27th at Westfield Chapel Funeral Home in Springdale, Ark. A memorial and celebration service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 28th at Fellowship Bible in Fayetteville, Ark. The family would love for you to join them. Additionally, in lieu of flowers, the family has set up a memorial fund to benefit the various non-profits and ministries championed by Dean and Janice. Online donations may be made at www.thegrovechurch.org where you can select his memorial fund. Or checks may be sent to the The Grove Church in Fayetteville, Ark. denoting "Dean Alexander" in the memo line.
