Doris Maxine "Mackey" Smith, 88, while surrounded by her loving family, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 24th, 2017. Maxine was born April 15, 1929 in Bauxite to the late John Sutton and Iva Fite Sutton Rickett. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Paul R. Smith; sons, Charles Winston "Chuck" Smith and Allen Smith and brother, Vernon Sutton. She is survived by her sister, Johnnie Epperson Sugarland, Texas; daughter, Paula Hall, John Hall who she said she couldn't love more if he were her son; daughter-in-law, Karen Smith; grandchildren, Dr. Stephen Smith (Leslie), Mycah Altman (Kyle) and great-grandson, Graydee Altman; as well as nieces and nephews she loved dearly. Maxine was a 1947 graduate of Little Rock Central High School. After marrying the love of her life, she and Paul moved their family to a 100-acre farm in Faulkner County where they built a house, raised cattle, gardened, and devoted their lives to their children and grandchildren. Her house was her favorite hobby. She loved gardening, canning, and cooking (including the BEST chicken and dumplings). She served her community as a volunteer at the county election polls, and neighborhood crime watchers; and her church as general secretary and in vacation bible school. If there was a need she filled it. If there was a hurting heart, she prayed, and you could always count on receiving an uplifting card of encouragement when needed. Maxine played a huge part in helping raise her grandchildren. She assisted with homework, transportation, and special Sunday walks on the farm where she shared life lessons. The birth of her new great grandson gave her a special joy. While she was small in stature, her heart was bigger than life and her influence on her family greater than she knew. Ensuring her family was loved and taken care of was her greatest concern, and her greatest accomplishment. Her life was an example of how it really does take a village. Visitation and funeral service, officiated by Brother Norman Powell, will be held at Harmony Baptist Church beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday October 28, 2017. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery. Pallbearers: Kyle Altman, Chase Furrer, John Hall, Kenneth Mazzia, Jack Savage and Stephen Smith. Online guestbook www.rollerfuneralhomes.com.
