David Paul Burton

David Paul Burton, 99, of Little Rock, died October 25, 2017. He was born on March 14, 1918 in Auvergne, Arkansas to David Henry and Mineola Burton. After receiving a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Arkansas, he farmed near Tupelo, Ark. for 36 years as well as being involved in other agricultural businesses, including serving as president of Farmers Oil Corporation. He served on the Board of Trustees of Harding University for 25 years, and was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ. He enjoyed traveling and being at his lake house, and he was an accomplished woodworker. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ruth Elaine Burton, second wife of 17 years, Ada Shuffield Burton, brother, Owen Burton, and sister, Opal Ford. He is survived by four sons, Bruce Burton (Diane) of Memphis, Tenn., Jim Burton (Mary) of Little Rock, Richard Burton (Dewey Brown) of San Francisco, Cal., Steve Burton (Teresa) of Little Rock; stepchildren, Elvin Shuffield (Cheryl), Carolyn Lay (Gary), Linda Shuffield and Joe Shuffield all of Little Rock; grandchildren, Dr. Caroline Burton of Rochester, Minn., Bruce Burton, Jr. of Maumelle, David Burton, Jr. of San Francisco, Cal., Jeffrey Burton (Catherine), Richard Burton (Brooke), Jason Burton (Amy), Rachael Sargent (Scott) all of Little Rock; step-grandchildren, Elaine King (Josh) of Portland, Ore., Jason Boyeskie (Julie) of Fayetteville, Ark., Christian Shuffield (Bridgette) of Little Rock, Kara Woller (Bob) of Little Rock, Kymberly Shoemaker of Jurupa Valley, Calif., Lindsay Conrady (Elton) of Little Rock; 28 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home. Services will be 11 a.m., Monday, October 30, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel, with burial at 3 p.m., Walnut Grove Cemetery, Newport, Ark.
