Frances Ozell McKamie, born in Patmos, Arkansas, August 13, 1928, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Buford and Dora Bearden; all seven of her siblings, her husband of 57 years, Edward McKamie; and their daughter, Elsie McKamie. Frances is survived by daughter Gloria McKamie Silkwood, grandchildren Eddie McMahen and wife Merry, Kelly Bunch and husband Leotis, Courtney Silkwood and wife Cindy, and Brannon Silkwood and wife Amy. She has seven great-grandchildren: Jordan Evans, Joshua Bunch, Colton and Kendall McMahen, Madison and Laken Silkwood, and Colby Silkwood born Wednesday. A Falcon native of 70 years, Mrs. McKamie worked many years at Pierce Grocery for her in-laws, Lurene and Willie. There she once served her homemade pie to Bill Clinton as he was campaigning for governor. After Edward retired, she took part of his job gauging oil wells for Delone Drilling. In both jobs, she was reliable and competent. In addition, Frances loved to cook, to garden, to can, to sew and quilt, to make flower arrangements, and to fish and camp with best friends Jessie and Joann Sanders. Her grandchildren believe that she made the best fried chicken ever and the most delicious banana pudding. She did not like to sit idle except to watch her soap opera and Wheel of Fortune. Having had a golden heart and pure spirit, Mrs. McKamie set an example of how to be hospitable, friendly, and accepting. She shared unconditionally and did not like to waste anything. Frances was a long-time member of the Falcon Church of Christ and enjoyed the fellowship there with friends and family. She will be missed tremendously by those who love her.
