Shirley Smith Beaumont, 77, of Little Rock (formerly Beebe), Arkansas, passed away on September 11, 2017. She was active in Pulaski County government for a number of years, highlighted by her tenure as a two-term Pulaski County Clerk (1981-1984) who always carried a stack of voter registration applications with her in case she met anyone who wanted to register to vote. She retired from politics after an unsuccessful bid for Arkansas Secretary of State in 1984. She was most proud that, during her tenure as County Clerk and previously as an administrative aide to then County Judge William E. Beaumont, she was instrumental in initiating the restoration of the Pulaski County Courthouse. Shirley was a faithful member of the Beebe Church of Christ. She was also a member of the 1957 class of Lonoke High School, a class that remains close even to this day. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and David Dixon; her first husband, Roy Dale Smith; her second husband, William "Bill" Beaumont; and her brother, Harold Dixon. She leaves behind a loving family: son, Stan Smith and his wife, Michele, of Maumelle, along with their children, Natalie Smith and Dylan Smith; son, Shayne Smith and his wife, Tracy, of Little Rock, along with his children, Zachary Smith and Kirby Anne Smith, and Tracy's sons, Samuel Hathcock and Calum Hathcock; brother, J.D. Dixon and his wife, Elsie; brother-in-law, Lynwood Smith; and sister-in-law, Judy Smith Morris and her husband, Dale, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Missions work of Beebe Church of Christ or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. A special thank you to UAMS Senior Health Center, UAMS Department of Neurology, Intrepid Home Health, the Kindred Hospice team, and Koy Butler for providing the wonderful home atmosphere at House of Three in Little Rock. The family wishes to express its gratitude for the generosity of time, compassion and love shown by Ms. Sheena McDaniel of the House of Three. The family also thanks Ms. Joyce Underwood – a fellow Jackrabbit – for her unconditional support and lifelong friendship to our mother. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2017 at Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home, 404 W. Dewitt Henry Drive, Beebe, Arkansas 72012. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the Beebe Church of Christ, 1906 West Center Street in Beebe, with W. Dale Morris, M.D., officiating. Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens cemetery in Beebe. Arrangements by Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home. www.SmithFamilyCares.com.
