Emma Lee Bass, 75, passed away Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born April 23, 1942 in Alton, Ill., to the late Cecil and Emma Stoeckel Reed. Dr. Bass worked in the educational field for 46 years including principal at Annie Camp, Deputy Director of the Arkansas State Department of Education, AR State Director of the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement and Director of the Arkansas office of AdvancED. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Laura and Stan McFarlin and Lynda and Dennis Hamm all of Jonesboro; a sister and her husband, Mary Lou and Jerry Riddle of Jonesboro; an aunt, Betty Derby of Campbell, Mo.; four grandchildren, Brock McFarlin of Bono, Brooke McFarlin of Jonesboro, April N'Diaye (Baps) of Nashville, Tenn., and J. C. Hamm (Catie) of Smyrna, Tenn.; five great-grandchildren, Emmalee, Parker, Owen, Daba and Rylie Kate: several nieces, nephews and other family and friends. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe Bass in 1996. A celebration of her life will be 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 18, 2017 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Patty Soward officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Log Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Stan McFarlin, Dennis Hamm, Brock McFarlin, J C Hamm, Jerry Riddle and David Leonard.
