Walter John Schuldt

Walter John Schuldt of Fayetteville, died on September 19, 2017 at the age of 84. He was born on December 9, 1932 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Walter John and Irene Rickmeier Schuldt. As a young man, John served in the United States Air Force as a staff sergeant during the Korean and Cold Wars. He was stationed in Germany with the Intelligence Division. During this time, he was also the lead singer in the Air Force jazz band and recorded under the professional name of Walt Stevens. His solo tunes were played on the radio in Europe. John married Doris Ann Schuh, the love of his life, in 1958. He earned a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology at Michigan State University in 1964. Later that year, John joined the faculty of the Psychology Department at the University of Arkansas. He served as Director of the Psychological Clinic and was active in research, clinical supervision and teaching. During his tenure, John received the "Outstanding Teacher Award" from Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society. He retired as a Professor Emeritus in 1995. John was also active in the community serving as a founding board member of Ozark Guidance Center and helping to establish the Elizabeth Richardson Children's Center. John is survived by his wife, Doris, of 59 years, a daughter Andrea King and her husband Mike, and a son, Eric Schuldt and his wife Angie, and by four grandchildren: Grant King, Garrett King, Tori Schuldt and Lauren Schuldt. They were his proudest accomplishment. A visitation will be held at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville on Sunday, September 24 from 1-3 p.m. A private family graveside service will take place on Monday, September 25. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Fayetteville, Elizabeth Richardson Center or Ozark Guidance Center.
