Mrs. Peggy Allison Gingerich, 88, of Stuttgart, Ark., died on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018, at Conway Regional Medical Center in Conway, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James E. Gingerich. She is survived by two daughters, Nomie Fraser and husband Bob of Clarksville, Ark., Joy Graham and husband Rick of Vicksburg, Miss.; and one son, J.D. Gingerich and wife Janet of Conway, Ark. She was known as "Ma" by her eight grandchildren: Adam Fraser, Allison Spangler, Amanda Spaw, Hannah Fraser, Matthew Fraser, Noah Fraser, Sarah Gingerich and Zachary Gingerich; and by 10 great-grandchildren. Born in Texas on July 24, 1929, her family moved to Clark County, Ark., where she attended and graduated from Sparkman High School, and received both undergraduate and master's degrees in education from Henderson State University. She was a classroom teacher in Thornton and in DeWitt, Ark., before moving to Stuttgart, where she was a classroom teacher for 15 years and an elementary principal for an additional 15 years. After their retirement, she and her husband were honored by the Stuttgart Public School System by the naming of "Gingerich Elementary". To thousands of public school students, they were known as "Mr. and Mrs. G". Mr. and Mrs. Gingerich were both active community volunteers, serving in both local and international mission projects. They also loved to travel, and Mrs. "G" liked to say that they had been to "every American state, all Canadian provinces and another 27 countries…" She was a member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, where she was involved in all aspects of the life of the church, serving as Chair of the Administrative Council and Board of Trustees, and President of the United Methodist Women. She also served for many years as a teacher of Sunday school classes for children and adults. A visitation will be held at Turpin Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, April 4, from 5-7 p.m. Following a private burial at Lone Tree Cemetery, a celebration service will be held at the Stuttgart Grand Avenue United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 5, beginning at 1 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, or to a charity of your choice.
