Edwin Hershal Knight, age 94, once asked a man who was bragging on all the homes he owned, "And where is your home going to be when you die?" On March 22, 2018, Ed left home in Little Rock for his new home in heaven. He was born on May 12, 1923, in Pine Grove, Ark., to Edwin Lewis and Eliza (Seale) Knight. Following military service in WWII as a combat medic in the Philippines, he earned B.S.A., M.S. degrees and a Diploma of Advanced Study from the University of Arkansas. In 1948, while teaching in Gillett, Ark., he met and married "that pretty new math teacher", Doris Cornell. He was principal of Stuttgart Junior High until 1969, when God called them to be volunteers in planting churches. They relocated to teaching positions in New Jersey. After retirement, they volunteered as dorm parents in the Philippines, as EFL teachers in Thailand, Vietnam, and China, and other missions to Haiti, Mexico, American Samoa, and Greece. Ed loved to serve people, and was still volunteering into his 90s. As a loving family man, Ed's children and grandchildren have fond memories of camping, traveling, and his storytelling. He is survived by Doris, his wife of 69 years; his children, Ed and Lynne Knight of Little Rock, Kalla Byrd of Medford Lakes, N.J., Pam and Jim Elliff of Kansas City, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. His greatest pleasure was that they would all know and serve the Lord Jesus Christ. A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, April 7, at 5 p.m. at Parkway Place Baptist Church, Little Rock, Ark., with visitation 4-5 p.m. Graveside: 2:30 at Pinecrest, Alexander, Ark. Memorials may be made to Baptist Global Response, P.O. Box 930507, Atlanta, Ga. 31193-0507 (gobgr.org). Comments at www.griffinleggetthealeyroth.com.
