Cary Hunt

CARY HUNT, of Little Rock, passed away April 5, 2018. Born December 25, 1923 in Henderson, Tennessee, she graduated from Memphis High School and Rhodes College, where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She married Fred Hunt in 1958 and worked with Fred in his home building business. She helped organize the Little Rock Home Builders Auxiliary; was elected to the Board of Directors of the National Association of Home Builders Auxiliary in Washington, D.C. and became President in 1970. She was elected to and served on the Pulaski County Quorum Court. Cary was active in many organizations, including March of Dimes, Salvation Army, Twentieth Century Club, Home Builders Auxiliary, Riverdale and Pleasant Valley Country Clubs. She was a faithful member of Second Presbyterian Church. Cary loved to play golf and tennis, travel and fly airplanes. Since her husband, Fred, flew airplanes, she decided to learn to fly, and earned her private, commercial and instrument pilot ratings. In 1972, the In-Sinkerator Company (maker of sink disposers) asked Cary if they could sponsor her to fly in the Powder Puff Derby, which she accepted. The race began in San Mateo, California and ended in Toms River, New Jersey, 3000 miles, all VFR flying. Cary is survived by her husband, Fred Hunt; daughters, Sharon Stevenson (Frank) and Patricia Hammond (Roger); six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, May Harris of Pensacola, Florida; one brother, Ray Harris of Olive Branch, Mississippi; and a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lacy and Lexie Harris and siblings, Joe Harris, Mary Alice Acklen and Spencer Harris. Special thanks to Dovie Wright and all her caregivers for their loving and compassionate care. Services will be held on Tuesday, April 10 at 3:00 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Steve Hancock. A reception will follow at Pleasant Valley Country Club.
